Just as the Széchenyi Chain Bridge links the Buda and Pest sides of the Hungarian capital, a study abroad program created by Zsolt Rumy, ’66 B.S., connects the University of Minnesota and Budapest University of Technology and Economics. Rumy, who grew up in Hungary, wanted students from the two institutions to experience each other’s worlds. For U of M junior Sam Newell, looking over the Danube River at night with newfound friends was one of the highlights of the semester-long exchange. “I learned to feel comfortable with their culture and with my own,” he says.
