Cultivating advocates

Catlan McCurdy and Sanjiv Laud
Tony Nelson

University of Minnesota Law School alumni Catlan McCurdy, ’11, and Sanjiv Laud, ’12, established the George Floyd Memorial Scholarship in Law to provide critical financial support to students who enhance the diversity of the Law School.

Special consideration will be given to underrepresented students and, in particular, Black or African-American students. The first award will be for the 2021-22 academic year.

In Catlan and Sanjiv’s words: “Our nation is at a crossroads. The time to confront inequality and racism is now, and the whole world is watching. Together we can make a difference.” They hope that recipients of the scholarship will enter the legal profession and join Law School alumni in advocating for racial justice and equality.

Catlan's and Sanjiv's gift continues to inspire. Since it was established in June, more than 350 Law School faculty, staff, alumni, and friends have given to the scholarship fund.
