“There are many public statues of named men—military leaders and so on—across the United States, while those of women tend to be unnamed and reflect archetypes, like bounty and motherhood. The Minnesota State Capitol has two plaques honoring named women in the building and none on the grounds, compared to 27 statues, busts, and plaques honoring named men.”

—Sydney Shea is a graduate student in landscape architecture in the U’s College of Design and recipient of the Jo Tushie Endowed Fellowship and the A. Dale Chapman Fellowship. She hopes to do a display about her study on the gender gap in public sculpture at the Minnesota State Capitol.
