Ever look down from an airplane and wonder what you’re seeing? A new offline mobile app called Flyover Country, developed by research­ers in the U’s Depart­ment of Earth Sciences with funding from the National Science Foun­dation, lets you track your flight with GPS and discover the world below with geological maps and points of interest. 

Researcher Shane Loeffler, ’15 B.S., who received the Jill and Terry Swor Scholarship and the Evelyn Lepeska Scholarship at the Uni­versity of Minnesota Du­luth, developed the app along with fellow scien­tists at the U’s National Lacustrine Core Facility.
